I handbuild in porcelain clay and currently create my bowls in the palm of my hand. They are as small as an inch in diameter and as large as eight inches. I also make bud vases and small porcelain trays and dishes. I purposefully have chosen to work without a wheel because I feel much more artistic freedom working this way. I also feel much more of a personal connection to the clay & my pieces working this way. A bowl can take on a shape because of that piece of clay and the particular way I turn it that moment. The fact that no two pieces are alike makes this an amazing joy in my life. My only goal is to make art that brings pleasure to people–gives them something unique and beautiful to use in their everyday lives, something a machine could never turn out. I think this is an important thing for us not to lose…made by hand, in hand. I have chosen to glaze only in white because I feel that best shows off the unique character of each piece. My studio is open by appointment only.
