With a background which includes architectural design, architectural photography, architectural illustration and 3D modeling and animation, I have been working with clay as a stress relieving hobby for the last 5 years. My adventures as an emerging ceramic artist includes membership in a number of Vancouver's Community Centres' pottery clubs, a number of Raku workshops in Italy, and France and a Raku masterclass in Portugal. My search for a ceramic aesthetic revolves around geometric primitives as form generators and the contrasts the medium provides between rough naked clay and smooth glaze.
My clay art is primarily wheel thrown geometric vessels of medium size. I use both Raku and cone 6 stoneware oxidizing firing methods for the various pieces I create. Each process provides unique opportunities for final colour and texture. My process includes generating ideas for the forms I wish to create on my sketchpad and occassionally pre-visualizing them by modeling them on my 3D software which I use for my architectural rendering work.
