Is it important to you that your utlitarian pots are light enough to use with ease?
Or do you like “beefy” pots? How about non-utilitarian pots and their weight–does it matter if they are heavy?
Question of Week | May 1, 2012
At what stage during the ceramic making process do you insert the personal?
I have noticed that I am often intrigued by others’ work that is made personal at a completely different stage than mine. It may be that our work process is implanted by our teachers, and we don’t realize that there are other ways to do things than the ways we were taught. What is your process? How did it develop?

Did you start with pottery (ceramics) by accident or by design?
How we each “found” clay can likely be an interesting series of stories I bet. I’m guessing there are many convoluted paths leading to each of our kilns. For myself…… I started out life as a marine zoology major in college. But more on that later…….. how about you? Was it is cosmic plan…. or serendipity?

Have circumstances, finances, or health issues forced you to change the way you work? How did you respond to the challenge?
There have recently been a few discussions here on the Forums about injuries and illnesses and such. The economic situation in most of the world has impacted many of us. Some of us have experiened catastrophes and disasters like hurricanes, tornados, and earthquakes. Some have lost loved ones or gone through divorces. Some have had homes or studios (or both) burn down. Let’s look at how these kinds of things have affected us, and rather than focus on the negatives……. discuss how we have (or how we might have) dealt with the challenges. - John Baymore – President Potters Council 2012

Share your most memorable clay experiment.
Potters are great innovators, inventors and and problem solvers. It’s what happens when you have to deal with clay, machinery, computers and fire … you sometimes have to just sit down and think your way out of or into a situation. – Chris Campbell – Past President Potters Council 2011
