Studio Description: My ceramic works focus on hand built sculptures and large scale installations using universal symbols and subjects that are closely related to the human body. I work with a very wide range of clay bodies and surface treatments, and enjoy being ‘chosen’ and challenged by them. I strive to achieve a true harmony with the material and to bring out its most beautiful and lively aspect.
The idea of adaptation and transformation has been my focus in creating this series of work. I am most interested in exploring the soft and transformable qualities of clay and the energy it holds. I construct these objects by using a delicate balance of choice, chance, and process; strive to bring out the materials’ most beautiful and lively aspect. Each piece is a fascinating study of form and surface. As the work going through the multiple adding and subtracting stages; transforming as the firing temperature rises and falls, it gradually arrives at its final composition and becomes a ‘living’ individual.
I seek to make objects that delight the eye and draw the viewer close. Object carries memories and interpretations of life through the universal harmony of lines, forms and textures. I try to express this through my work, and it is then up to the viewers to carry on. |
