Studio Description:

As a young child I lived on both coast (my Dad was in the Army). I was away from and longed to be surrounded by my family. In 1976 we settled in Eastern NC and my primary focus was to raise my children surrounded by family. When my children were grownup it was time to begin again my passion for art. Though I still draw from early the influences of my first pottery teacher in California: the work of Dan Finch my first mentor, my experience at the JCC Folk School learning to make large pots from Leon Nichols, the work of Tom Gray and David Bellar are some of my favorite influences. My deep love and appreciation for tradition and family remains; therefore my work has become a natural expression of what I see as traditional North Carolina Pottery. I find the ongoing challenge of discovering my voice as a potter both exciting and rewarding in my lifelong journey in the pursuit of pottery excellence.

My pottery is mid range-fired stoneware. The glazes we use are all food safe. The pottery is microwavable, dishwasher safe, and can be used in the oven (where size and function and practicality permit). This isn’t factory work. My husband Wayne, (helps with wedging and lifting) and I make every piece by hand. We have no employees. We use a potter’s wheel and an electric kiln.
