Studio Description: I think I was born with a love for animals, and a desire to portray their gentle and peaceful spirits. I create original clay sculptures using coil, slab and pinch hand building methods, some are also built solid, then hollowed out at the leather hard stage. No molds are used. I am currently using three firing modes; Electric, primitive smoke firing and wood firing in a small kiln I built. I am learning glaze chemistry, making and testing slips, terra sigs, stains and glazes. Many surface treatments are explored, including acrylic patinas to achieve the finish I envision. These exciting techniques offer unlimited possibilities of experimentation & discovery. I also make glazed tiles which are hand pressed in a mold that I make from a original sculpted relief tile. These are layered with glazes and fired in an electric kiln.
I have a BFA from Eastern Michigan University.
