I am a resident artist at The Gallery at La Cigale in Mt. Gretna, PA (www.galleryatlacigale.com). I also show work at the PA Guild of Craftsman store in Lancaster, PA and at the Lebanon picture frame and Fine Art Gallery in Lebanon, PA. My work has been exhibited in local, state, and national shows, including the Strictly Functional Pottery National.
I am interested in how things relate to each other in the natural world both in a practical sense and in a visual way. I like to use natural elements as a starting point for exploring texture, movement, and spontaneity in my work. Most of my work is hand built using slabs that I texture with different grasses and plants or with stamps that I have made. I love to make boxes, including boxes with stacking sections, and platters and trays to display food or to use for flower arrangements.
Most of my work is fired in oxidation in an electric kiln to cone 6 using multiple slips and glazes. I am also fortunate to be able to fire occasionally with a group in a wood kiln.
I received a BA in biology at Earlham College, where I also had the opportunity to study in Japan for a year. Later, I received a second BA in ceramics and photography from Bennington College. I live and work in Cornwall, Pennsylvania.
