Studio Description:

I have been working with clay since I was a teenager growing up in San Francisco. I’ve always responded to nature so it’s no surprise that my works deals with the physical and emotional aspects of the natural world. Living in western coastal Sonoma County the windswept hills, birds and wildflowers have become a daily part of my vocabulary as an artist. Flowers and birds as imagery first appeared in my work as an undergraduate and I continue to use them in clay form in many of my pieces.

In 1986 I established a studio in Mexico with my late husband William Morehouse. I fell in love with their Tree of Life candelabras so off and on through the years I occasionally pay homage to them by lighting a candle to the wishes of my own iconography. More recently I’ve taken on a more political and environmental point of view. Using the globe as a reference point I’ve been working with reticulating glazes in order to best describe the decay of our crumbling socio economic and environmental times. I love texture now and can’t quite seem to get enough of it.
