AMY SANDERS Some pieces will be created by pinching, folding, and draping thin slabs over bisqued clay molds; while others will start with simple paper templates. Discussion will focus on how pattern, line, texture, and proportion inform composition and aesthetic decisions made while creating a pot. Details of techniques: Amy works mainly with mid-range stoneware that is stretched into thin soft slabs. These slabs are then stamped to create a pattern or scene and then pinched or folded, stretched and scored together. Some pieces are then draped over a mold, while others start with a simple paper template. Gestural rims and feet, as well as appliqués created from stamps are often added. All pieces are electric kiln fired to cone 6 and surfaces are completed with layered glazes and oxides. Amy will be happy to share her glaze recipes with participants.
