As
we are all aware at this point, tragedy has struck the country of Japan
in the form of a devastating earthquake and tsunami. The extent of the
destruction and toll on human life is both difficult to comprehend and
impossible to calculate at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with
our friends and colleagues and their families, and indeed all of the
people of Japan, as they begin to recover from these terrible events.

The
Potters Council is accepting tax-deductible donations on behalf of
those who have been directly affected in the most hard-hit areas. We
will be working with local liaisons in Japan to identify the most
effective ways to distribute all the funds that we collect.

If
you are personally interested in making a monetary donation to help the
ceramic artist community in Japan, please choose a donation level in the
link provided below. Your donation will go a long way toward helping
people in the coming months as they rebuild their lives and livelihoods.

100% of your donation will go directly to a fund for potters in the hardest hit areas.

We also encourage every one of our members to reach out to artists you know, who have been affected by this tragedy to offer your support in whatever way you can. Even a letter, phone call or email expressing your concern and interest can make a difference.

In the weeks and months ahead there will be much to do to support the recovery of Japan and the people directly affected by these events. Let’s make sure that we do all we can to support our friends and colleagues.

Sincerely,

Charlie Spahr, Executive Director
