Theo Uliano uses abstract and representational imagery on the surface of his earthenware tableware and vessels to convey his own personal narrative derived from his daily experiences. In his presentation, Theo will demonstrate the process and techniques he uses to create his narrative thrown tableware and hand built vessels.
November Potters’ Pages Highlight
In this issue of Potters’ Pages, our Immediate Past Chair kicks off the issue with the annual Call for Nominations for the Potters Council 2015 Board. In addition to this, we have Kip O’Krongly share her surface decoration techniques, we announce our 2015 calendar winners, and list our upcoming events.
For Jack Troy, demonstrations will emphasize the evolution of personal forms — pots with a unique identity. Using the cup as a take-off point, Jack will demonstrate how the cup reflects a concern for functional and aesthetic values.
Through everyday ceramic pieces, Kip O’Krongly explores how she can subtly, and even a little subversively, investigate her interest in issues surrounding food production, transportation, energy use and climate change.
Tammy Marinuzzi is known for her quirky, anthropomorphic, utilitarian ware. Her primary inspiration is the people around her: their interactions, their body language and facial expressions, and their stories – real or imagined. Tammy’s building process is best described as organic and spontaneous.
In this issue, we cover one of our member’s favorite benefits: The Potters Council Juried Show. Shown in conjunction with NCECA each year, members can submit an entry now until October 31, 2014 . In addition to this, we have Potters Council Layering the Ceramic Surface Presenter, Patrick Horsley, show how-to make his signature matte glazes, and Potters Council board member Marcia Selsor recap her experience on the Potters Council Tuscany 4 trip.
To Kate Maury, form and texture unite through a basic application of the principles and elements of design. This workshop will focus on embellishing functional ceramic pieces through the repurposing of craft molds. Both high and low-relief motifs will be investigated as well as pattern and texture.
