Pottery Decorating Video: Making Beautiful Marks on Pottery with Fluting, Carving and Painting with Wax

Decorating the surface of pottery is arguably just as enjoyable as creating the form and there are endless variations on how to approach ceramic surface decoration. That is one of the most exciting things about this art form. Today, Robin Hopper, draws from his many years of experience to present a handful of pottery decorating techniques. in today’s video clip, which is excerpted from his two-disc DVD collection Making Marks (a video adaptation of his popular book), Robin demonstrates some great fluting, sgraffito and wax resist painting techniques.     thank you for teaching this kind of designed, which i needed for my teaching.. i would like to buy your DVD’s but my salary is just enough to sustained my children necessity. Even this small portion of you teaching will be great help so my trainees will be able to learned more on designed in pottery. We use red clay.Thank you so much!!! a knowledge is better than gold!     I can’t tell you how much I enjoy watching these video clips. I hope that one day I will be able to attend one of your workshops,(come on down to south Alabama or Mississippi) Until then, I definitely need to get these videos or the book.

    Thank you for the wonderful ideas. I do a lot of free-hand carving and enhancing of my pottery and am always looking for new techniques. As soon as I sell more, I will purchase the DVD. In the meantime I will try the wax technique, and have some ideas for incorporating it into my work!

    Very good demonstration! You explained it perfectly so I really didn’t have any questions and feel I can try the technique with confidence. Thanks. I will be purchasing either book or videos. Keep posting these short clips as they are a great teaching tool.

    Hi
    The exerpt indicates that it is 6 min, 58 sec long, but stops after about 3 minutes, just as Robin is demonstrating sgrafito. Any way to be able to see the rest of the demo?

    I definitely plan to get the video.

    Kathie - It could be that an incomplete version of the video is stuck in your browser’s cache. Try clearing your browser’s cache. If clearing your browser’s cache doesn’t solve the problem, you might want to check the stability of your internet connection. An unstable internet connection could be a reason for which the video will not load or buffer completely. You’ll need a broadband connection with at least 500+Kbps for the best viewing experience.     mmmmm Robin u have very creative hand which i adored it. I am new in ceramic. I like your way and idea applying the scratch on the pot.may i ask you what kind of wax u apply on the clay pot. does it melt when firing. this new to me. i enjoy it.
