Studio Description: Many things and people influence my work consciously and
subconsciously. My pottery has always reflected my environment to some
degree, as I feel it should. I am fairly new to Alaska, having lived
here in Juneau for almost 4 years. Having moved from the desert of
Nevada, now living on an island and being co-owner of a boat for the
first time in my life- water is ever-present in my thoughts. I am using
porcelain clay fired to cone 6 in oxidation, and have developed a new
body of glazes to compliment my new design ideas. Biographical information: After graduating college, a classmate and I opened and operated “Steinkrug Pottery” in a German village in Covington, Kentucky called Main Strasse. Later I sold wholesale to Kentucky State Parks and various shops and galleries in the Midwest. In 2000, my earthenware was included in the book A Pottery Tour of Kentucky by Joe Molinaro. In 2003 I moved to the desert of Nevada and my pottery influences became the Native American “rock writings” or petroglyphs. There I met my husband Wayne, and together we moved to Juneau in 2005 for our Alaskan adventure |
