Studio Description:
Sylvia Coppola has been working in clay since 1976. She earned her BFA from Western Carolina, with concentrations in Ceramics and Jewelry. Duck Creek Pottery was established in 1989 at her Union County farm, where she works as a studio potter. She has taught pottery classes and workshops at her studio-Duck Creek Pottery, Red Sky Studio & Gallery, Rising Sun Pottery, Mint Hill Arts and at Wild Acres Retreat (near Little Switzerland, NC).

Her work has grown and evolved from round wheel thrown forms, to thrown and altered work which sometimes includes hand built pots. Teapots are one of her specialties, along with many other utilitarian forms. Form and function greatly influence her designs. Textured surfaces decorate many of her pots, adding depth and visual interest.

The pottery is fired in her gas kiln to 2340 degrees in a reduction atmosphere, which helps create the warm rich colors of the glazes she uses. Plums, rich browns, tans, blues and greens are among some of the colors used.

Duck Creek Pottery is sold in 40 gift shops and galleries across the US.
