    Gee, they look great to me. Any time you get a red to turn out well, bravo. You may check your kiln for different spots where these glazes are better, sometimes that happens. Try some test tiles, set them in different kiln spots on different levels see if that tells you anything. At the same time do the test tiles with different thicknesses of glaze. Overall though I think these look fine.

    Been using vinegar in my slip for years, never noticed any warping. I haven't done any studies as to the negative effects of vinegar either, but don't think there are any.

    Many of the schools around here do not open until after Labor Day, as this allows the small local amusement parks to stay open longer. Without the Summer help only weekends would be open. That is the reason some try to get out very soon after Memorial Day.

    Are you sure that you have Labour Day? When I was going to grad school in the states, I wanted to take the long weekend off [ in September], but people said that it wasn't a holiday. We also do not have a 4 day weekend for thanksgiving, and it definitely is not called black Friday. Our Thanksgiving happens in October and not November. Great holiday. I love the fact that there are no gifts involved, or chocolate.

    Yes sir, it's the first Monday in September, so this year it is the 2nd. Most schools, that I know of, have that day off, as well as Memorial Day.
    I know about quite a few of the Canadian holidays, as my friend lives in Northern Maine, aka, Southern Canada. So in his area, they celebrate both holidays.


    I always hated to see the 4th of July come, as that is almost the mid point of Summer here. It meant that school was just around the corner. I also had a thought all along that I would never start school before or on my B-day as that was on August 19th. However one year we opened on the . .. . .19th!

Camping, kayaking, family, travel, Art in general. I have a small studio in my garage. Two electric kilns, two wheels, wedging table etc. I am primarily interested in cone 6 Ox. but like to see what is going on at all ranges. Read about ceramics voraciously and love the feel of the clay and throwing. Have to admit that my greatest joy is in the making, not the glazing. That said I do mix my own glazes, some of my own formulas, some borrowed. Retired from teaching art, last year after 36 years, taught ceramics 34 of those years.

    Teaching is a great service job and can be very rewarding. Glitches can be working conditions, administration, etc.
    But there are great rewards.

    Pres, after reading your comment on pugmills, came here to say I think we have a lot in common (I'm a little older than you) in that I love making pots (wheel thrown or handbuilt)but do a crappy job of glazing except in Raku. Like your posts.

    Hi Pres, happy to meet you and v. impressed with images of your studio space. In a hurry just now, but will spend time visiting your blog later. Living in Australia in the mountains, I have only recently commenced my practice. What a journey! I made a beautiful shape and then spoiled it my scraping a hole through the wall. I've spend days trying to repair it.I learned a good lesson...
