  1. In Topic: Disappointed in my new wheel

    Posted 18 Apr 2013

WOW I have had this problem with 2 speedball wheels. the first a clay boss the second and elite. Both time speedball gladly replaced the whole wheel head. With the first wheel this worked fine. Not so with the elite. After taking things apart and putting on the second wheel head it was worse and made a terrible sound. We noticed that the wheel head pulley was wobbling really bad so I called speedball back and they sent a new one of those. they have been amazing. Well this didn't solve the problem either so I am not sure what to try next. Any ideas????

Ok I am sorry I just saw these post today. The kiln wash I use is from Clay King I have no idea what it is made from. The spray went on so nice and smooth. I refired a second time and had the same result with brushing off powder when I brush my hand across the shelve. I am did a glaze firing yesterday and decided to use some kiln paper I bought under a few pots with some new glazes I am trying and was unsure if they would run. Will let you know in a bit how things turn out. Thanks for the replys

    Hi Nelly
one thing I do with my gradchildren is roll out a slab and let them use cookie cutters and cut out all kinds of shapes to make christmas ornaments and magnets. I also let them texture the caly with those foam stamp things and then they lay it over a plate of some size and let it dry. They are 3 and 6 and using a plate for a mold comes out great. They feel like they have made something like I do. I let them throw flat plates on the wheel then we take those "discs" and adorn them with cut out shapes .....can put a hole in it and hang it on the wall. they make trinket holders and ring holders using little molds they cut aroung and lay the clay on top of a dish shaped liked a fish or whatever you have, just to get a basic shape....I am constantly looking for ideas they are a little to young to come up with much on their own yet. GOOD LUCK what a great neighbor to invest in your friends children. AWESOME PERSON alert!!!
