    Here is what you do;
    1.Pour off the surface water into a clean container. You will be returning it to the glaze later.
    2. Get you pear corer [large trimming tool] Loosen up all the glaze.
    3.You may even have to pour it out onto a canvas.
    4. Pour the water back in.
    5.Gradually add the glaze, using a drill with a paint stirrer.
    6.Once you have all the glaze back in, add enough water to make the glaze the consistency of cream.
    7.Sieve through an 80 mesh sieve into a clean pail.
    8.Wash original pail. Then sieve glaze back through a 100 mesh sieve.
    9. You do not need Epsom salts. The reason glazes go rock hard immediately, is because they do not have enough clay in them. Friitted glazes are the worst for this. I always add 3% Bentonite to my glazes. Also makes the unfired surface of the glaze tough.
    Enjoy!

    Clayppl;
    I am thinking that you might have made an uneven application of vinegar. If you worked on one side only, or more on one side than the other, the clay slab would warp towards you.I tend to go easy with the vinegar, using it only to repair hairline cracks.

    Benzine, Pres,etc;
    The deal here is that we must teach 200 days of school. Doesn't matter when you start, as long as you get that time in. As I mentioned before, education is a provincial mandate, so, each province is different. For a couple of years, we started the last week in August on a Wednesday. Half the kids were gone as parents were still on holiday. A new premier was elected. He changed this right away, moving the start date back to after Labour Day-the first Monday in September. Much cheering and adulation. He served three terms as our premier. He is now the Canadian ambassador to the U.S. His name is Gary Doer. I think our prime minister appointed him so that he would not have to run against him.

    Thanks Tom! I'm just getting back into my studio.....gardening and fishing took up a lot of my time this spring. I am currently working on weathered-look concrete-framed wine cellar tiles (one posted in my gallery).

    TJR I thought I would let you know they have moved the warning south of us. I'm not really worried about myself just everyone else. I have a basement to hide in some people have no where to go. A large tornado the other night north of Wichita was mostly in no mans land. But it took out three farms and killed 1500 cattle. All 3 families lost their lively hood, no one insures cattle. De...

    Thanks for the hint, I keep using them to soften the comments as I know that at times I can be abrasive when I mean humorous. Guess I never grew a funny bone! I am learning to tread very lightly in the forums-slowly.

    TJR That particular fountain is Cone 1 Majolica and low fire red terracotta that is fired to it's max temp. to make it vitrified and hold up to freezing weather. The spills and moldings are Cone 6, I worked on the low fire glaze and clay combination development for 6 months. I wanted it vitrified and not crazing which is what Majolica does. I have done 3-3' and 2-6' murals also w...

    Thanks. Sometimes the comments and commentors are just get too serious; a little levity is needed.
