The glaze on the 112 pieces looks thin to me. Plus the color of that clay is going to affect the brightness of the color, so don't expect it to be as bright as on the white clay. The white clay pieces look good to me. I wouldn't expect a red to be much brighter than that in a cone 6 glaze.

Isn't there some sort of hazing ritual that new moderators have to go through?

After 7 years you probably would have seen some corrosion without the cat, but urine would definitely speed it up! I once repaired a kiln that the cat had peed inside of, and when I started it up it I was faced with cat urine steam, which burned into my nostrils and didn't go away for a week.

As for the #8 button turning on the lights on the control board, it actually only shows which relay(s) the control board is currently sending power to. On a single zone kiln it sends power to all 3 at the same time, so all 3 lights should be on at the same time. If not you have a problem with the controller. On multi zone kilns it send power to the relays independently of each other. The controller doesn't know if the relay is actually working or not, just that it's sending power to it. This is a slightly helpful diagnostic tool in multi zone kilns because it will show if a relay is being powered up more often than the others, which could mean there is a problem getting heat to that section due to a bad element or a thermocouple problem, etc. Plus it's fun to watch the lights go on and off.

AND doing some hand building and needed the slab to harden a little and put it on some canvas on the floor and it dried just like that... this is a whole new wonderful space that I never thought about before!

I just wedged my clay. I dumped the water off my reclaim, spread it on a big cloth and put it on my basement floor. Moved it a couple of times and it was perfect for wedging today and I want to thank you. It peeled off the material like magic. Thank you, thank you.

I know you are very much politically correct and do not want to put any company that produces kilns down, but
maybe you could give me an advice which kilns are the most reliable? I am interested in firing up to coin 6, middle size,
    electric, any voltage.
    Thank you in advance.

NEIL;I made this small rimmed bowls out of porcelain, with the idea of putting a round candle in for Christmas. Before I waxed the foot, I brushed Alumina on, to avoid "plucking", as you suggested. No plucking, so thank-you for the suggestion.Tom Roberts

Neil;I keep looking at that luscious yellow glaze on your teapot. Is your colourant rutile? Are you firing oxidation? Can we maybe trade a recipe or two?Tom Roberts[TJR]
