Hi Okima and welcome
You can look up pit firing techniques on the Internet. There's a lot of good youtube videos and articles around. There's also books you can buy and videos via Ceramics Monthly - bookstore.
I'am doing pit firings for over 5 years now and what I can say is: better doing round than angled forms for the pit firing, and bisque fire first (cone 06/07). I will check for questions from you when you start to do pit firings.
Good luck!

Hi Celia
I just watched the youtube video of your tv show. Thank you for sharing. It was very interesting to see you throwing and to hear you telling your life story. I surely will try the double-walled-vessel-throwing. I'am doing horse (and lately buffalo) hair raku too, but in a pit, not in the raku kiln. Your vessel with the feathers look gorgeous!
Greetings from Switzerland

Yes, I sign every piece with my initials and the year I done the piece. Mostly I scratch the initials into the clay with a needle or paint it on with iron oxide. Always on the bottom of the piece. -

Hi Mea
I visited your Blog and saw the pics "before-after". Absolutely wonderful place now. Congrats. I'am working in my basement too, one part of my studio is in the laundry, one part in the cellar and the last part in the storage cellar. Kiln is in the aisle between those rooms. I totally see your reason to do a renovation. You did a good job. Happy potting! Evelyne -
