  1. Mentoring Program

    Posted 17 Apr 2013

    Good morning,
I have been thinking of joining the Pottery Council for a while, mostly to try to participate in the mentoring program as a mentee. How can I find out if is active? I did see a few posts by people who had been waiting a while for a mentor. No criticism here, I understand the commitment, so I understand why it may take a while to match people up, but does anyone have an idea of how long? A month? A year?

    Thank you for any information,
    Nancy
  2. Does Anyone in Upstate NY Soda Fire?

    Posted 1 Dec 2012

I would love to see this happen, and maybe learn make some things and rent some space in your kiln! I am in eastern upstate NY, about 40 minutes from Saratoga Springs. Thanks!

  3. Is the potter's council worthwhile?

    Posted 14 Nov 2012

    Hi all,
I am wondering if the Council is worthwhile for a newer potter? I have my own brick and mortar shop, and put some of my smaller stuff for sale in there, but I don't plan on entering any shows or doing any sales anytime soon. Are there educational opportunities offered? That is my focus right now - to learn as much as possible about everything!
    Thanks,
    Nancy
  4. How to Make Polish Pottery?

    Posted 6 Nov 2012

    Hi all,
I just saw some gorgeous Polish pottery, which I hadn't come across before. I would love to make something like that!! Does anyone know what type of clay is used, what cone it is fired to, and what is used for the colors? I have been using underglazes on buttons and ornaments I have been making, and have had terrible fading with the reds, so I would be very interested in how to get those dark reds and blues.

Here is a pic of what I was looking at, although I am sure you all know Polish pottery! Thanks in advance,
    Nancy
  5. Colored Clay Techniques

    Posted 26 Oct 2012

    Hi,
I recently came across the work of Susan Nemeth, and I love it!!! Are there any books that teach this technique? I am reading a book by Jo Connell, and she does talk about putting colored clays on a slab, but I am not sure how to go about doing that. There is no information on this.

Are there workshops that teach this technique? I would go, if it was when I wasn't working.
    Thanks much,
    Nancy
