Topics I've Started

  1. making a mold from bisque

    Posted 11 Jun 2013

should a bisqued piece be glazed before making a plaster mold from it?

what do people use as a mold release? ive used murphys oil soap and i really dont like it.
  2. how to thin a glaze down

    Posted 31 May 2013

my tests come out fine and when i mix a bigger batch (x25) it doesnt come out right.

the glazes are too thick, then when i add water, the gloss goes away.
can anything be added other than water to thin down a glaze?
is there any kind of chart or database that would tell me exactly how much water to use for a specific glaze?

    ^06
    silica 2
    3124 89.5
    epk 8.5
    bentonite 2
    vgum 1 tsp

    5% nickle oxide
  3. making plates

    Posted 23 May 2013

ive tried to make plates several times. i use a 06 clay. (slabs)
would using a high fire clay help prevent cracks and breakage?
  4. how would i make this?

    Posted 13 May 2013

im trying to make a shaving bowl. glazed on the inside and an outside with a sandy texture.
is there any kind of grog i can buy and just roll a wet bowl in it so it sticks, then fire? and will it be waterproof, or should i use a matte glaze?
  5. fire on decals

    Posted 4 Apr 2013

ive been trying for months to figure this out.
ive already wasted enough money on decal paper that doesnt work.

would anyone be willing to sell me one or two pieces of fire on decal paper?
i have both a inkjet and a laser printer.
i would like the decal to fire black, as i am doing lettering on coffee mugs.
my understanding is that the laser printer will fire sepia, and the inkjet will fire true colors?
but most inkjet printed decals, you cant fire?

    UGH.
