W-2 are #2 wedge bricks. They are tapered down the 9" measurement and are meant to form an arch 9" thick. Arch brick are tapered in the 4.5" direction and are used to form a 4.5" thick arch.
  2. In Topic: Is Canvas well just CANVAS?

    Posted 25 Feb 2013

Heavy weight all cotton canvas seems to work best. If the material has polyester in it, it will tend to strecth out when it gets wet. Unbleached cotton duck is tthe official name for what you want. Unprimed

Most relief carvings can be covered with a glaze that "breaks" a lot. I have several that I use ar cone 9 reduction

Utube has a bunch of videos.
One of the most informative as well as intimidating I have seen lately is Isaac Button.
  5. In Topic: electric kiln lid failure

    Posted 19 Dec 2012

I have a Westby kiln(smile if you know about these) that I made a new lid for by buttoning and glueing a layer of 8 lb. blanket to the under side of fiber board, and topped that with Sairset to seal everything up.Mostly used ffor 04 bisque but a few adventures to cone 4 have not resulted in any kind of failure. The lid is suspended from the ceiling joists so I can add or take away rings if needed.

I have also built a few electric kilns with steel banding holding the rings together.
