Topics I've Started

  1. Teapots

    Posted 29 Apr 2013

I made my first teapot- right now it is glazing so I will be able to post a picture tomorrow. (lets hope the glaze looks nice, it's a dark clay body and I have not done a test tile) Anyways, I did a "test pour" after it was bisqued, and it poured out nice, but when I go back upright with it, it will drip down the spout a little. Is there a way to prevent this?
  2. super dark clay body and glazes

    Posted 3 Apr 2013

I was mentioning to Niel that I got a box of A.R.T's Ultra Brownstone - It looks even darker than the pictures indicate after being fired. Literally like chocolate. Anyways I have fallen in love with the feel of this clay body. I saw a sample at the shop that had pink chiffon glaze over that dark and it looked like a burny dark green brown. It's intimidating to think of glaze and how it will react over such a strong clay body. Can anyone point me in the direction of potters who use a super dark clay so I can catch some inspiration?
  3. orange with dark green shino

    Posted 2 Apr 2013

I have been looking for the perfect glaze to use on a specific sculpted pot that i made. I have seen images of a bright orange shino with dark green breakthrough but I cannot find a product that looks like that. Can any of you experienced potters point me in the right direction?
  4. Kiln Repair

    Posted 24 Mar 2013

Public thanks to Neil Estrick for the encouragement and help diagnosing the problem. Thanks to Arnold Howard's You tube videos that served as a big help. And Of course my husband for helping me too. I thought my life was over when my kiln didn't work thursday- thank goodness an element is a simple thing to change. In the morning i will find out if i successfully fired.

I am however pretty sad that my bricks are very old and brittle... super brittle!! I don't think it will tolerate another element change.
  5. 2 temp glazes...

    Posted 24 Mar 2013

I got some iridescent cone 020 glaze. I was wondering if I am able to glaze a cone 5/6 glaze and then go back to re fire a cone 020 as a pearly layer if anyone has opinions on how to get it to work? Would it be too vitrified to work?
