A liquid silicon like you use to make dry flies works for sealing.
Annie's Mud Shop in Cincinnati used to sell it in a spray bottle.

I had a nice black with small gold crystals at ^10. But in 1980 I stopped firing to ^10 at school and lowered the temperatures to ^6. I fired ^10 in my oil kiln with Volcanic ash at home.

The water vapor does matter as I said. The pots need to be dry. That is the schedule I used for over 25 years of firing at the University. But don't shut the lid it if you have water vapor.
Montana is a dry place. I didn't have any problems with that schedule.

I shoveled a pick load of Volcanic Ash on the Couer d' Lane Indian reservation (with permission) back in 1980.
Used it for years at the University. I still have some and I gave a lot away when I moved to Texas.
When I was a caretaker at a religious estate in Upstate new York, the fireplace ash trap in the basement was full of cherry wood ash. A 50-50 mix with Albany slip, gave a beautiful gold sparkly glaze at ^ 10..

In all , it was a very nice group of people. Many teachers.
We had a few sprained ankles from people looking up and walking off curbs.
The people in the group were on time, worked well together, were fun and enthusiastic.
They loved the program and what they got to see.

27 Jun 2012 - 22:48I copied down your glaze test idea so that I can try it. I think you have a mistake on the fourth line. Should be C +E. TOM.
