In Topic: Forced air burner plans?

100 cubic feet per minute one a 3 x 3" fan may be sufficient relative to a 24" x 24' 150 cfm window fan.
If you have a propane torch, light it and hold it in front of the blower and see what happens. You are trying to introduce air to the flame of natural gas. You don't want to blow it out.

This is a fascinating tale. I hope you get it solved. I want to know why is it happening.

I experiment a lot. I can empathize with what you say.
Currently taking a break from airbrushing terra sig onto pieces and burnishing them.
I am hoping to get some fired before Thurs. when I have to present a nice piece to a
speaker of a Civic organization as a present.
New techniques can take years to figure out to finally reach your pre-conceived idea.
But..after a few dead ends sometimes things improve quickly and progress.
Post pictures or let us know how it all came out.

In Topic: clay shrinkage
Posted 20 May 2013
I make shrinkage test bars any time I use a new clay. It is amazing the variations. I find I usually have close to 5% in the bisque stage for most clays and porcelains that I use.
Then it will vary for the final firings. Some porcelain is 12-13%
Disheartening when the firing large pot comes out so small. Good luck with the flutes. I have collected a few. I admire people who can make them. It isn't easy iMO.

I don't think I would ever think of Beatrice Wood as calm and gentle.I admire her greatly. She had a zest for life, and "chocolate and young men" Have you ever seen the movie, Mama of Dada? Or read her autobiography.."sometimes I Shock Myself? She was an absolute wonderful character. Good choice.
Marcia
I was thinking of later interviews with her when she was elderly. Her life and energy seem to have a soft and even flow, during the interview she would throw, have a cup of tea and then throw some wood in a small gas kiln to reduce it slightly. She didn't even seem to notice the camera and interviewer. I would have been extremely nervous, I'll have to rent that movie, reading is more of a challenge with my MS. Denice
In the later interviews when she was very elderly is where she revealed her secret to long life was chocolate and young men. She laughed!!!
