This is the sgrafitto piece from my gallery

I am home now. Tis was a dark clay with a porcelain slip applied. Then drawn using a porcupine quill. It is a street scene outside the studio in the old medieval part of Vallauris, France.

AIR Vallauris is where I did a residency last October. It worked when I clicked on it. Let me know if it is working. Got home last night from the Tuscany Tour III. It was really a great group. Nice people. All went smoothly except for some twisted ankles. So much to see looking up, people walked off curbs.

  2. In Topic: trimming platter with altered rim

    Posted 17 Jun 2013

I have a bat with 2" foam as mark describes. If this won't work for your altered rim, try putting a 1-2" thick clay coil on the rim of a coffee can. Center the can and attach with clay.
you can lay a thin piece of oam on top of that. I have added some water to the can to help give it some weight if needed. It really depends on how altered a shape you have to work with.

  3. In Topic: Vinegar and clay.

I use a few drops of vinegar in my throwing water when I am using porcelain. It may be silly but I think I throw taller and thinner pieces.

You can work with a 100 gram batch by dividing everything, each ingredient by 250.
You should end up with 100 total. Then you can add the colorants by %.

Could be the incredibly SLOW wifi at my hotels.
maybe it doesn't all get included. The link is to my gallery, made in France album ..there is a square plaque in there with sgraffito.
I will be back home tomorrow night.
Should not have issues after that.
    Ciao.
I am ready to be home.

    Marcia;
I copied down your glaze test idea so that I can try it. I think you have a mistake on the fourth line. Should be C +E. TOM.

beginning to prepare for Fall semester at a new teaching job at a great facility on the beautiful campus of University of Texas -Brownsville. Only concern is dodging bullets from Matadoros, Mx and the drug cartels.Bullets have hit campus buildings..seriously.

As Patti Warashina says (and I am at her feet) clay is a most humbling media and we must be crazy to work with it.
