About Me

BFA 1970 in Ceramics,Phila. University of the Arts, MFA 1974 in Ceramics,SIU Carbondale. Retired in 2000 as a Professor Emerita after 25 years of teaching University level ceramics at Montana State University-Billings. In 2006 relocated to Brownsville, Tx. She received 2 Fulbright Scholars Awards: Spain in '85-86 documenting ethnic origins (Iberian, Roman, Celtic, Moorish) of Spanish folk potters traditions, kilns, wheels, pottery forms, in 48 pottery centers all over the country and Uzbekistan '94 taught History of World Ceramics, studio ceramics, worked with the Architectural Restoration Dept. at the Tashkent Institute of the Arts. Also visited many sites of Islamic Ceramic Architecture from the 10-16th centuries; lectured at the University in Bukhara, Tashkent University, numerous schools and the National Symposium of Ceramics teachers. Taught at UH Manoa in Spring 2005 as visiting Director of the Ceramics and UT-Brownsville 2011-2012.
Over the past four decades she has taught workshops on Architectural Ceramics, Paper Clay, Soda firing and Kiln building, Primitive pottery techniques, Raku and Horsehair firing, Tile making, Hand building with Large Slabs, ^6 Reduction firing in Spain, Italy, France, Canada, and across the United States including Hawaii. European workshops have been ongoing since 1995 combining the trip to include as many cultural experiences and study-touring as possible and hands-on clay experience. She's had residencies at: '71 The Grail, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY;'91 Dzintari, Latvia; '92,'93 State Ceramics factory in Tashkent, Uzbekistan;'93 Visual Artists Residency at Banff Center for Creative Arts @ Banff Alberta 2000 Straumur Artists' Commune Iceland; '02 Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, MT; '03 The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, Pa.;'04 La Meridiana, Italy;'08 The Mary Anderson Center, IN; '09 Hui No`eau Visual Arts Center, Makawao, Maui;'12 A.I.R.Vallauris, France . Her work is in public and private collections on three continents, appears in numerous books and magazines most recently
Alternative Kilns and Firing Techniques, Advanced Raku, 21st Century Kilns, Ceramic Sculpture; Inspiring Techniques, Mastering Raku, Lark Books 500 Raku pieces, Paperclay;the Art and Practice (2013). She has been listed in Who’s Who in American Art since the mid- 1980s. She has written articles for: Potters Council Newsletter, Studio Potter Magazine and Newsletter, Pottery Making Illustrated, Women Artists' News, Crafts Range, Craft International, NCECA Journal and newsletter, Voices of Art, British Archaeology Reports, Ceramics Monthly and served on the CM technical Staff from 1998-2004, plus contributed to several anthropological books, glaze books and more. Recently exhibitions include A.I.R. Vallauris Oct. 2012,: 41st th Annual International Show at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art, 2011 Texas Six-Pack show, U Dallas Ceramics Regional Competition, and Fertile Ground; ceramic pieces from the permanent collection at Yellowstone Art Museum with:Voulkos, Autio, Weiser, Toland, Notkin, Senska, Shaner, DeWeese and Selsor; Vasefinder.com annually since 2007, The Art of Dining In IV at 18 Hands in Houston. Served on the NCECA Board of Directors 1990-1991, Potters Council Board of Directors from 2006-2011 and as President 2008-2009 and Immediate Past President until 2011. Recent workshops:'11 Throwing and Large Slabs, molds and tar paper forms, Roswell Museum and Art Center, Roswell,Mx ; '12 Cone 6 Reduction Workshop in Corpus Christi Tx., Potters Council Tour in Tuscany II, Master Raku workshop in Vallauris, France. . She is a charter member of Potters Council and a member of the American Craft Council, NCECA, Texas Clay Art Association and a Lifetime member of the Fulbright Association.Upcoming workshop Potters Council Tuscany III June 2013 and Architectural Ceramics with Stephani Stephenson at La Meridiana 2014.
