My name is Mea Rhee, and I am the potter behind Good Elephant Pottery, which has recently become a full-time venture after many years. I make functional pottery for daily use, fired to cone 6 in an electric kiln. My designs are minimal and rustic, and always functional. I consider myself "self-taught" in that I am not formally trained in ceramics, though I have had many wonderful teachers along the way. My degree is in graphic design, and most of my professional life has revolved around a busy design studio, which these days has been relegated to a "side business" now that my pottery studio demands most of my time. Still, my design background influences my pottery work all the time, both in terms of aesthetic principles and the administration of a small business. I am located in Silver Spring, Maryland, which is just outside of Washington DC. I also teach pottery classes at the Greenbelt Community Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. My current classes include Intermediate Wheel, Advanced Wheel, and an annual wood-firing workshop.
