Topics I've Started

  1. perceived value of a piece

    Posted 20 May 2013

Another thread got me thinking, perceived value is what a customer considers when they look at a piece and decide to buy it or not. Many of us do shows where we offer basic ,stock : easy to make-easy to sell pieces.

What is you favorite way to increase percieved value without increasing the time it takes you to make the ppiece to a point whaere you can't get your $$ equivalent to the time you spent making the piece?

I use stamping and simply carving.
  2. selling here this weekend?

    Posted 16 May 2013

We will probably go to the Oxnard strawberry festival this weekend with the grandkids, wonder if any of you will have a booth. The internet site suggests it has a large vendor exibit, 250 booths. I love to see how others set up their booths and their wares. And talk with other potters.
  3. When to leave a gallery.?

    Posted 11 Apr 2013

How long to give a new gallery venture before ending your arrangement with them.

Some of my new ventures have played out pretty well , others, not so well, over the same time frame, 6 months. How long would you stay with a gallery that has produced poor sales?
  4. 1/2 shelf placement

    Posted 8 Apr 2013

How far apart do 1/2 shelves need to be to facilitate air flow and temp eveness? I am considering cutting some full shelves in half, how much material should I take out, how wide a gap between the 2 pieces? I am assuming the outside edges need to stay the same distance from the side walls of the kiln.
  5. Kiln posts sticking?

    Posted 8 Apr 2013

Lately, I have been having trouble with the posts in the lower half of my glaze kiln firings stick hard to the shelf above, not to the shelf they sit on. The temps are the same as always, the posts are the same. Any guesses? Little bits of the post edges are breaking off , stuck hard to the shelves. Since this in on the bottom of the shelf, there is no kiln wash there.

Should add, some of these posts are 2nd hand, maybe very old.

I liked your post about working in the studio, didn't know that it would freak out so many and get so off topic ;)
