In Topic: Triage for applying to shows

Good question. Unfortunately, no easy answer.
If the theme seems to fit your work, bonus ... but no guarantees
I've been told to check out the jurors work for a clue .... but that's not true.
They are jurying a show, with a theme, not their own booth.
I would say you should check out the sponsors to see what quality they represent.
If their past shows have been wonderful, then you can trust that your work will be judged fairly.
Also, everyone should trust the Potters Council Show and make a piece to enter!! -

I agree with Jim ... Been potting for a lot of years and have never held a mirror up to a kiln to check for steam or vapor.
If you put your pots on your cheek and they don't feel cool, they are usually dry enough to fire ... unless the pots are super thick, children's work or sculpture.
I wonder if this super concern for dryness comes from communal spaces where the person in charge of firings wants no blame so insists on every pot being incredibly dry -

How cool is that! Now I am thinking you could make them into the shapes of frogs, fish, octopus.... Why stop at boring cubes? -

Here is a tip for those who just want the bright white color of the more expensive porcelain, but are not overly concerned about translucency.
Use it as a slip.
Yes, make a yogurt thick slip of the expensive porcelain and brush it on the firmed surface of your less white clay..
Leave it alone for a bit since the moisture from the slip will soften the vessel.
I have done this with success on tiles and on outside surfaces of vessels. -

If you look in the ads in the back of sunshine artist magazine or check their online forum etc ...
http://www.sunshineartist.com/
or google craft booth lighting you will find booth lighting specialists ... If you describe your work they are very good at recommending the exact lights you need. Don't scrimp on booth lighting ... It makes a huge difference in the appeal of your work at a show.
