About Me
Here is my official "bio."
Leigh Taylor Mickelson, a resident of Ossining, NY, is currently the Programs Director at Clay Art Center, where she is also an artist member. In 2006, she moved to NY from Baltimore, MD where she was the Exhibitions Director for Baltimore Clayworks for 9 years. In her 12 year career as an arts administrator, she has curated dozens of ceramic exhibitions for galleries in the United States. In 1995, she received her Masters in Fine Arts, Ceramic Sculpture from Rochester Institute of Technology’s School for American Crafts. She has taught ceramics and workshops at Baltimore Clayworks, Catonsville Community College and various art centers on the east coast. She exhibits her work at various galleries across the nation. She received a 2003 Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award for her abstract organic sculpture and her work was showcased in an article in the March 2005 issue of Ceramics Monthly. She is represented by Sherrie Gallerie in Columbus, OH and had a solo show there in March 2010, where she showcased her new body of work. She also gave a lecture about her work in the New Work panel at NCECA 2010 in Philadelphia.
To add to this - I am a mother of two daughters - aged 4 and 8 and I am married to videographer/filmaker Matt Mickelson. Our one project together so far was a clay instructional video - Matt Long: Vessels for Victory - which has been very well recieved in the field. We hope to make more videos soon. My studio is at my home in Ossining, and my official studio is Friday, plus any other time I can negotiate. I am at Clay Art Center Mondays - Thursdays, when I organize educational and exhibition programs and handle marketing and PR.
