  1. Laguna MS glaze that breaks?

    Posted 28 Mar 2013

Hi I'm looking for some help. I am currently using Standard 240 and the Laguna Moroccan Sand glazes. I buy the glazes dry and mix them myself. Huge savings without having to mix my own glazes. I am doing some slip work and want to use glazes that will brake over the slip. The test tiles on the various web stores leave much to be desired. Has anyone used these glazes and know which ones would break over raised design?? I just can't afford to buy to many glazes at once and would like to purchase ones that suite my need best. I will post an example of some work. Thanks for any reply's.

  2. The Test Tiles Lied!

    Posted 25 Jan 2013

    Hey All,

So I did make test tiles, They look beautiful. My pots look awful. I mostly have pitting and some running off the pots over the drip line. I glazed the tiles and pots at the same time and they were in the same kiln load. The tiles are for making a glaze sample board like someone else posted. The only difference was the tiles were dipped and the pots were glazed by pouring. The pots were really dry. They had been bisqued to cone 04. I am using Highwater Little loafers, and Laguna Moroccan Sand dry glazes. I fire to cone 6. Did glazing by pouring really make that big of a difference? How do I fix this problem? I don't have large enough quantities of glaze to dip everything. I appreciate your replys.

  3. Making molds from Styrofoam

    Posted 17 Jan 2013

Over the holidays I came across some unusual shaped packing material made from styrofoam. I'm wondering if I can use the styrofoam forms with pottery plaster to make some molds. I don't want to mix up the plaster and not be able to use it. The pottery plaster is costing me $25 for 50lbs. Uugh.

  4. Thick settling Glaze

    Posted 4 Dec 2012

Question about the Laguna Moroccan Sand glaze (cone 6) I'm using. I buy it dry and mix it up. When using this glazes settles to the bottom of the bucket VERY quickly after stirring. I have to restir before every use. I have heard of additives that will keep glaze material suspended. Looking for more info on this. I have burned up a second submursable mixer, Uuugh!

  5. Wheel Height

    Posted 1 Nov 2012

:DHi all, I am constantly working on my throwing. I've only
been at it a about 3 months. I'm wondering how high others have thier
wheel, and why. I'm going to try and raise mine up on some blocks
tommorrow. I am 5' 6" and currently the wheel head is about 1" below the
top of my knee as I sit at the wheel. My thighs parallel the floor.
I do get some pain after throwing but I think this is just age related. I
feel as though I should have better leverage with my upper body strenghth.
No problem centering small amounts. But, if I try and make anything larger
than a mug I have a real lack of control. I am currently taking a ceramics
class. The instructor stated that all wheels were the same height when I
asked her about adjusting the one I have at home??? Your advice is greatly
    appreciated.
