I first sat at a potters wheel in 1975. I've been in love with, passionate about, obsessed by clay and things made of clay ever since. I studied in 1979 with Wayne Ngan, and today when I'm at the wheel or mixing glazes or firing a kiln I still remember the things he taught me. "You make pots from the inside," he would say. From inside the pot? Inside me?

When I finish making this pot, I will make another. That's how my life unfolds and it makes me whole and happy.

I'm certain working with clay gives me an opportunity to be a good man.
