  1. Controlling Shrinkage in Casting Slip

    Posted 22 Apr 2013

Any advice on how to control the expansion in this low fire white casting slip?
It is shivering off commercial glazes:

    .400 TEXAS TALC
    .250 C&C
    .200 HYDRITE FLAT
    .100 MINSPAR 200
    .050 VICRON 25-11
    Any ideas much appreciated !

  2. Fireshade Stains /Underglazes

Anyone have experience with Fireshade underglazes?
  3. Hold Limitations on Electric Kiln ?

    Posted 17 Apr 2013

    Question probably for Neil.

Someone was told by one of the kiln companies not to do a hold for more than 30 minutes at high temperature... that it would destroy elements or some such thing.
Sounds like misinformation to me. I could imagine a long hold being extra work for the relays but does anyone know what the kiln maker might have been talking about?

    Thanks!

  4. Shiho Kanzaki Making Coiled Tea Bowl

    This is great:
Master potter Shiho Kanzaki making a coil/ pinch and throw tea bowl. What a great lesson this is !

    I tried to mimic what he does exactly: funny but somehow mine did not quite come out the same (;

Anyone have one of these massive banding wheels packed away that you might be willing to part with? Want, want want !

  5. Kintsukuroi Fix

    Posted 13 Feb 2013

    Hi,
I have a one of a kind cup with a small hole in the side wall.
It's a kooky artsy yunomi type thing so can't really remake it, I know I should smash it but I love it.
I want to try the trick of filling with gold which I think is called Kintsukuroi.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Can i crumple up gold leaf and pack it in there?
Hoping Baymore San or one of you other masters out there might know.
I could fill with epoxy I guess but I doesn't seem right somehow.
Again, I know I should let go and smash it but I really would like to save it if possible.

    Thanks!
    Tim
