About Me
Hello,
I', a 60 something man living in Ajijic Mexico, a small village alongside Mexicos largest lake - Lake Chapala.
Ajijic and the surrounding villages are home to the worlds largest population of expat North Americans. Ajijic is not a tourist destination but rather a lovely spot to settle down and enjoy the exceptional lifestyle and weather in this part of Mexico.
I spent two years studying ceramics at ASU with Kurt Weiser and Randy Schmidt. I also studied at Rutgers with Bob Cooke. Jay Landis, my partner and I also taught private classes in Scottsdale and Flagstaff Arizona.
I operate a website called www.Berkeywaterfiltersystem.com as a means of producing some income and teach pottery classes at the Lake Chapala Society, a beautiful garden setting by Lake Chapala.
I am interested in learning how to use local clays and pottery techniques to make sculptural ceramics. Discovering local potters and visiting their studios is a real treat. Most use very traditional techniques and produce commercial ware. I am always amazed by what they accomplish using very low-tech methods. Adapting their methods is the real technical challenge. While the methods may be low-tech, the parameters within which those low-tech methods work are very narrow.
My work and a little information about the classes can be seen on my web site - www.danielnollstudio.com .
