i'm looking for a tomato red ^6 glaze that I can buy. I don't have the time right now to be mixing one up. I know Seattle Pottery Supply offers one, has anyone used it. Looking for other source and would appreciate any help I can get.

    Thanks,
    Bob

Coyote Clay and Color has a couple of reds with their Really Red probably being the most in your face red. I seem to be frequently recommending Coyote glazes, its a little embarrassing, honest I have no financial connection to the company - just a satisfied customer, satisfied with both their glazes and the telephone help I've received when I had questions.

Have you looked at the Coyote Clay and Color website? They have a green "Shino" though I wouldn't call the breakthrough color orange - more like a redish brown. The second glaze effect you wanted may require overlapping glazes and, thus, quite a bit of experimentation. If you go to the Coyote website and click on their Large Tile section you can see examples of all of their glazes and clicking on those that have a blue band around them will reveal examples of pots using that particular glaze - quite often with, and overlapping of, other glazes in their repertoire. Maybe you can get some hints of glazes to try or perhaps combinations to avoid. Joan Klotz

Thank you all for the helpful, knowledgeable answers to my questions. I emailed my friend instructing her how to access these posts and she found them very helpful and sends her thanks too. Joan Klotz

No but I hope someone replies it sounds interesting. I have bought and used Micaceous clay from the same people, they were very nice to deal with, perhaps if you telephoned and chatted with someone they would be able to help. If they do let us all know I'd love to see some pots, Joan (Venicemud)

This may be too little too late but the problem with the glaze recipe is a misplaced decimal point. I tried different talcs and kept getting very nice chocolate colored satin glazes with white speckles and then this weekend I tried 0.3% Black Iron Oxide instead of 3%. The result was a nice smooth very light cream colored satin glaze with brown speckles which is very pleasant to touch. Looks, to me, like an oatmeal glaze with a nice even dispersion of the speckles since it is is the Black Iron Oxide and not something granular that keeps sinking if the glaze isn't stirred constantly. Joan.
