  1. Glaze chemicals that need extra storage protection

    I started wondering which of my glaze chemicals would be the most harmful to first responders in a disaster. I thought of chromium, cobalt, lithium and barium, should I store them in the basement or find a special container. After the Moore, OK tornado I tried to imagine what first responders would find digging through at my house. The weather is suppose to be so bad here today they have started setting up temporary locations for the responders to work from. Any suggestions on a emergency plan for a studio would be appreciated, my only idea is old coolers or styrofoam boxes tape and label them. Denice

    If anyone live near the Kansas City area they have extend the Don Reitz Retrospective at the Belger Art Center until November 4 and the Orton Cone Box show at the Larwence Art Center ends October 27. My son and his wife are meeting us there they put together a clay birthday extravaganza for my 60th birthday, were staying at the Hyatt and my husband rented a fast car ( I think that's more for him).     Hello! No I don't have a studio yet. I'm in the middle of selling some industrial equipment and as soon as it sells, God willing, I will be buying a wheel and kiln : ). I had a kiln that I sold back in 94. I had gotten it used from a friend's mom. I use to do the ceramic mold thing. It was fun.

    Thanks for writing. I accidentally deleted the message before I finished reading all of it, but I appreciate your kind support. It boggles the mind that Mia is the moderator. She seems a little overly critical, and I am overly sensitive, so that is a bad combination. I did get a lot out of the rest of the posts though. I hope you have a great Christmas holiday!

    Hi Denice, thanks for writing. I think I will just try the mid fire Mayco glazes I have and test them out on myself, first. There were many good answers to my questions, but I will just have to try this or that. Wouldn't it be nice to have a reply button to write to people here that would also show what we said.     I saw that happen to one of my students when someone put fine sawdust in the reducing can. It was scary. Sorry you experienced that from thoughtless grad students.
