Can anyone tell me a good recipe for a nice true cobalt blue but only for like 1/2 gallon or less? Here is a link to a butter dish that has the ideal shade of blue that I am looking for. I have never mixed my own glaze, are there any tips or links on how to for first timers?

You should be able to find a commercial cobalt blue glaze very easily. Otherwise, take any clear glaze and add 1/2% cobalt carbonate by dry weight.

Buying glaze would be easier, but if you decide to take the plunge into mixing your own, check out the Noxema Blue on the following website

It turned out well for me - a thin layer is a little transparent. I like a slightly thicker application better.
