I'd like to give my birds and animals a satin finish. I've tried several commercial earthenware clear satin glazes but they all go milky (Australian - Cesco, Northcote, Walkers). I think it might be better to mix the underglazes with a clear gloss glaze, instead, to give the satin finish. Can anyone advise on proportions and/or glazes? Alternatively, is there a good stoneware, clear satin glaze? I've been using Feeney's Gold Raku and Keanes White Raku Paperclay - both can fire to stoneware.

Try just using the underglazes without a top coat. Some of the low-fire underglazes will be satin when overfired to cone 5, but you'll have to do some tests. The colors change a bit at cone 5, but a lot of them work just fine.

Many thanks Derek and Maryjane. I'll do some tests.
