I just tried glass bead media for attempting to get a "mat" finish on a piece. It etched in further than I would like. Has anyone used walnut shell media?

Depends on the glaze? How hard it is? (what its made of-like some colbalt glazes and reds are very soft)
what its fired to cone wise?
This may not be what you want to do but how about putting a Matt glaze on to begin with?
Walnut shells work great on painted wood and metal and are less aggressive than glass beads.
