Hi, all,

I saw this listing for 2'x2'x5/16" Advancer Shelves on ebay. Not that
I need 50 shelves, lol, but was wondering whether these sound authentic -
the listing mentions that some of these are thinner than 5/16" esp
at the corners due to wear. Do they actually noticeably wear? Aren't
they different molecularly on the inside than the outside? And these
shelves have kiln wash on them... I thought that advancers didn't need
kiln wash since they were so dense that glaze wouldn't soak into them
anyway?

What do you all think? These sound like a great deal if they are for

These are salted advancers-meaning they all need to be rubbed down(scraped)
they are an unusual size 2x2
As far as wash mine are washed all 50 of them as porcelain feet stick to them at cone 11 without a light wash
As far as wear i have never seen or experienced that in past 15 years with mine.They break not wear.
When you break one the only difference is the outside is a bit smoother than the inside.I have broken a few over time on corners.
I used to know the details on manufacture of these-but what i recall is they are fired in electric arc furnace in a nitrogen rich atmosphere.
Salt sticks to them and you can see this in the photos of them at your site.
This is a good deal if you live near maine and can pick them up. These are pretty heavy sue to the large size-my 12 x24 weigh 9#s.
Shipping requires really great packing skills.I bought 10-15 used ones from NH and shipped them across country BUT my 1st question was about the person knowing how to pack them. This is way more important than any other part of the deal.
If I lived near Maine and needed this size I would drive up and dicker for the whole lot.
I actually think I know where these came from as I bought the 12x24s the guy had and the rest where this size.This person got the rest I think.Small world.

Now isn't that interesting, a small world indeed!

Would it be hard for someone to knock that salt glaze off those shelves?
Or, I suppose I'm actually asking how long it would take to clean
a shelf that looked like that. They look terrible to me, but I've never
used Advancers, and maybe it would just pop off with a flick?

I don't actually need shelves, but based on what I've read about
them (actually much of it from your posts of your experiences, come to
think of it), I just kind of want Advancers because they're so awesome for
certain uses. Wouldn't drive to Maine from California for them though, lol.
