Is paper clay bad for the elements in a electric kiln?

Not really. There's such a small amount of paper burning out that it shouldn't noticeably affect the element life, especially if the kiln is vented.

There can be some off gassing but keep the lid cracked or vent during this period.
I fired paper clay in my old oval for years without any problems.

I have heard that some kiln manufacturers wil not honor a guarantee for firing paper clay in a kiln.
