WS5: Trompe L’oeil Birch Bark Workshop w/ Eric Serritella

Baltimore Clayworks

5707 Smith Avenue

A two-day weekend workshop with Potter’s Council charter member Eric Serritella will combine instructor demonstration and student hands-on participation to create birch bark from clay. Eric will share a wealth of clay techniques to make realistic bark baskets and vessels. Each student will try the techniques on small pieces to keep. The students will learn how to create large slabs without the use of a slab roller, how to handle, assemble, and use templates for making projects from slabs, and the mixing and use of slips and ceramic stains for visual accents that mimic the look of birch bark and leather straps.
