Antique Pottery Research Direction on identification

I am trying to identify a piece of pottery that I picked up at an antique sale. I know very, very little about pottery, so I don't even know the language to use to research the piece I have. Can someone direct me to a forum that may help me? The color in the photo is actually not representative of how it looks in person. The bright colors only appear in the photographs. It is actually a very dull, earthen color. Brown and gray with some lighter colors peaking through. Maybe yellow.

I don't know if it is antique, but it is a wonderful pot, I like the colours.

It has a very old look about it. The stopper disturbs me; it seems a bit out of place. The vessel could be from many areas ancient wares are so similar. Something about it makes me say Roman, but what does the foot look like? Can you take a better picture without using a flash? There are scientist who examine clay compositions to determine origin and age. Also some of the auction houses have researchers who can give you more information.
