There have been a few questions pertaining to burning wood. I saw this awhile ago doing research on fireplaces, the information maybe helpful to some who do or want to do wood firings. The accuracy of the data I cannot account for, but it makes very interesting reading.

Interesting. We used to fire with cottonwood in grad school, and I would say that chart is really inaccurate with our findings. Awful to split- way too fibrous, awful to burn- not a lot of heat, and tons of ash- which is why we used it. Plus it was free. We got it free because the tree doctor who cut them down couldn't get rid of the stuff. No one would burn it. But that chart says it's about as good as pine???
