Laguna 901 is a very dark, high-iron clay. The iron can make the clay unpredictably brittle, especially when overfired. So choose something that is lighter in color. This doesn't mean your pots will turn out light, they might still flash dark in reduction.

I've used Standard Ceramic Supply #306 Stoneware http://standardceram...hFireClays.html and find it pretty forgiving. At the College I've taken courses in they even use it for Raku.
