Squish, Chop, Assemble, Repeat: A Potter Demonstrates the Fun That Can be Had With an Extruder and a Ram Press

Today’s video comes to us all the way from Down Under. Ric Pierce, a potter and Ceramic Arts Daily subscriber, sent me this fun little video demonstrating how to make one of his signature forms, the pelican jug. Ric uses an extruder and a ram press to make his pelican jugs. Now, I know that not everyone has a ram press in their studio, but that doesn’t mean this video is not worth watching. Au contraire! Ric demonstrates how, with a little imagination, you can take basic shapes and chop them up and reassemble them into something more interesting. And, if you’ve never seen a ram press in action, it’s kind of cool. Check it out! – Jennifer Harnetty, editor.
