Studio Tour Video Contest Prospectus

Posted By Jennifer Harnetty On November 16, 2009 @ 2:01 pm In Open Studios | Comments Disabled

The Studio Tour Video Contest has come and gone.

Congratulations to winners Jeri Lake and Kate Nicol-Smith!

Check out the finalists in our archives!

After we posted our recent “Studio Visit” post with Jeff Campana and Patsy Cox, we received a lot of feedback asking for video tours of artists’ studios. We think this is a terrific idea and to make it even more interesting, we decided to have a contest to find the best studio visit videos out there.

And best of all…
Skutt has agreed to sponsor this contest by providing a terrific grand prize:
A Skutt Elite 1/2 hp Pottery Wheel!

What We’re Looking For:

A video that’s a creative, friendly, entertaining, and informative glimpse into your studio. Viewers should feel like they are getting a personal tour of your studio.

How the Contest Will Work:

Viewers will submit videos following the guidelines below. The Ceramic Arts Daily editorial staff will narrow the submissions down to three semi-finalists. The semi-finalist videos will be posted on the Ceramic Arts Daily website and visitors to the site will vote for the winner.

The Prizes:

Grand Prize

One lucky and creative winner will receive a Skutt Elite (1/2 hp) Pottery Wheel!

Honorable Mention

Two runners-up can choose ONE of the following three prize packages:

Some Guidelines:

  • Be the star of your video – don’t just hold the camera and pan around your studio. You should be in the video. We want viewers to feel like they have met you and met your space.
  • Your video should focus on the interesting things that make a studio or a method of working unique (i.e. don’t just say “here are my shelves, here is my wheel;” rather focus on something interesting you do with those shelves – like putting plastic screen over your shelves so that you don’t have to individually wrap each piece of your work).
  • If you wish to use music in the soundtrack for your video, you must obtain the appropriate permissions or use music that is in the public domain.

Some Topic Ideas Might Be:

  • Show off your interesting use of space
  • Share your super great organization system
  • Tell us how you are making the most out of a small space
  • Explain the things you do to lower your carbon footprint
  • Talk about your innovative use of homemade tools
  • Explain how your teaching studio is set up for efficiency
  • Discuss how you repurposed an existing space into a workable studio
  • Are you finally working in your dream studio? Tell us how you made it so dreamy

Remember, this is supposed to be about your studio and how you work
in it. Try not to focus on your finished work so much, but rather on
how you do things in your studio.

Most
importantly, get creative! Think about what you would like to see in
such a video and make that video! Remember: creative, friendly,
entertaining, and informative glimpses into ceramic
artists’ studios are what we’re looking for.
