In this video, Philippe Faraut shows us how to become ceramic hair stylists.

It is always a treat to watch Philippe Faraut in action sculpting a figure. He makes it look so easy that it’s hard not to feel like racing down to the studio to give it a try. Of course, we all know it isn’t as easy as it looks. But Philippe is a great teacher, and if you watch and learn from a master and then practice, practice, practice, you can make great strides in your work.

j’aimerais savoir quelle terre vous utilisez, qui se colle sans griffures ni barbotine, tout à les se coller d’une façon simple, mais comme beaucoup d’autres je crains à la cuisson que cela explose. C’est un régal vous regarder!

He is an absolutely marvelous teacher, Just watching him is a treat. Go to one of his workshops if you can It is worth every penny and you will feel as if you can do it too!

Good question! I’d also like to know how you resolve all of the obvious air pockets I can see you creating when you add big slabs on top of each other while creating the hair? Are they taken care of when you hollow it out, from the inside? I have seen pieces pop off of heads and faces because of air pockets. Beautiful work!

i like the texture technique, but the slabs laying onto the head would leave large air bubbles. a problem if your going to fire this piece. i use very wet clay and add it quickly to the head, then texture it to look like hair, like you do. less air bubbles.

Philippe has a tallent i have been watching all his work but so far i havent seen how he makes Ears which are very important maybe he or you are leaving us to work them out (not a good idea i have had some catarstrophies maybe lots more practice. j
