From the first DVD, you learn the basics about working with PMC, becoming familiar with its unique properties and specialized equipment and tools. In addition to forming and firing techniques, you also learn about the finishing and refining of pieces you create. In this second DVD, the focus is entirely on making rings with discussions about the specialized tools you will need, such as a mandrel and ring sizer. Because PMC shrinks like regular clay, Sanderson provides instructions on how to get rings fired to the correct size with a fool-proof method. She begins the DVD with techniques specific to making rings and demonstrates making a simple ring. She stresses the importance of using PMC3 for rings for its durability and it also has the least shrinkage at only 12% compared to the 28% shrinkage of PMC+. Approx. 2 hours |

After the introduction, Sanderson demonstrates seven ring projects, each with some variation of the basic technique. The first project is the Celtic Border Ring made from PMC3 clay, paste and syringe, which she adds texture to and some simple creative components. The Round Bezel Ring in the second project is similar but includes a gemstone component, and the third project includes the addition of a decorative kanji character done with a stamp. With the fourth project, Sanderson demonstrates making a tapered band with letters stamped in the clay. In each of the first four projects the seam is hidden by a decorative element or incorporated into the design, so she demonstrates a seamless ring in the fifth project, showing how you can continue a pattern once the band is formed. The process looks simple and straightforward but requires practice. |
|
With the Filigree Leaf Ring, the process is a little more complicated. Working with a syringe, an intricate filigree pattern forms the band. On this, she places decorative elements made from PMC+ sheets around the band to add a touch of elegance. The final project is he Brilliant Trillion Ring, which contains a gemstone set into a bezel and includes a contoured wide band that allows for comfort when wearing it. Making your own rings allows you to express your personality and style. It allows you to create something that you can wear everyday or on special occasions and that’s sure to elicit both comments and compliments. |
